If you dream of studying at an American university, you've probably already heard of the SAT. It's one of the most important standardized tests in the admissions process for higher education institutions in the United States. But before you start studying and preparing, you first need to register, and that's exactly why we wrote this guide.

Registering for the SAT from Israel can seem complicated at first, especially on an American website with unfamiliar terms and processes. That's why, in this comprehensive guide, we'll walk you step by step through every stage of registration, explain the upcoming test dates, test centers in Israel, and the full costs, and share important tips that will save you unnecessary headaches.

What to prepare before you start registering

Before you dive into registration, make sure you have all of the following ready:

 1. A valid ID card or passport – This is the most important thing! The name you register with must be exactly the same as the name on the ID document you'll bring to the test. Even a small spelling difference (for example, including or leaving out a middle name) can cause problems on test day and could even prevent you from taking the test.

 2. An international credit card – You'll need it to pay the registration fee. Make sure the card has enough available credit (the cost is about 350–400 shekels, depending on the exchange rate).

 3. An active email address – All communication from College Board will reach you by email, including your registration confirmation, your Admission Ticket, and eventually your scores. Use an email address you check regularly.

 4. A recent digital photo of yourself – You'll need to upload a photo during registration. The photo must be clear, show your face and shoulders, and have a light background. It will be printed on your admission ticket and used to identify you on test day.

 5. An approved laptop or tablet – The test is fully digital. You need to bring a working personal device (a Windows / Mac laptop or an iPad) that meets the requirements for running the test app.
